Massachusetts State Scholars Initiative
Course of Study

To qualify as a State Scholar in Massachusetts, a student must complete the required academic courses, earn a cumulative 3.0 grade point average over their high school career, maintain a 3.0 GPA as a senior, participate in a work-based or service learning experience, and meet school disciplinary and attendance standards.

2 years of a language other than English 2

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average in grades 9 – 12 and in senior year *
  • Attendance in good standing
  • Work-based or service learning experience



* A student must have a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 for grades 9–12, and must earn at least a 3.0 GPA for each marking period of senior year to graduate as a State Scholar.
